Principles for Performance

Define Your Goal

Turns out that the whole “practice like you play” thing really does have something behind it all. Your body adapts to the demands placed on it. Want to run faster? Practicing sprinting at top speeds (total sprint distance likely greater than 20-30 meters) will make you faster. Want to be more explosive? Improve your acceleration by training with sprint starts (total distances 5-20 meters). Cutting and agility? Well… you get the idea.

The point is that you need to identify your goal or the area of physical performance that you are weakest in, and attack it with consistent, appropriate training. The following links will help start you off by giving a quick rationale and theory for training, as well as training tips and drills that can be beneficial for improving the stated goal.

Get out there; Maximize your training, maximize your performance.
